Early Life and Education Born in Freetown in 1944, Professor Malamah-Thomas excelled in academics and athletics during his school days. He went on to pursue higher education in the United States, earning a B.Sc. from Howard University in 1973. His passion for research led him to the University of California, where he obtained a Master's degree and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology by 1977. 

Research Accomplishments Dr. Malamah-Thomas dedicated himself to scientific research, holding positions at various institutions across Sub-Saharan Africa. His expertise was recognized by the Scientific, Technical and Research Commission of the Organization of African Unity, awarding him the Meritorious Service Award for his contributions to research and development in semi-arid food grains. 

Academic Career Professor Malamah-Thomas returned to Sierra Leone in 1995 to share his knowledge and experience. He joined the University of Sierra Leone, serving as a lecturer and rising to the rank of Professor within a year. He was known for his clear teaching style, fairness in assessments, and dedication to supporting students' research endeavors.
